what if you can move the seat every other way but backwards

Does it do anything at all? Like its struggling against something or weak? Also try without any weight in the seat if you haven't.

If it moves in all other directions suspect a bad switch, if the motor moves one way it has to move the other if it gets power from the switch I hope this helps you
