2005 Acura RL

Question type: General

My Acura has been over heating. I filed the radiator wit water and it stopped
overheating, but lately it began overheating again 6 months later. I filled the
radiator with water again and ran fine again until last night it overheated while
on the freeway, but then cooled down by itself. This afternoon, i didnt drive it 1
mile and it quickly overheated. I took it back home to fill it with water again.
then my car turned off. i tried to turn it on back on again, however the engine
to turn but it wont turn on. is my vehicle fixable or is it possible i fried my
engine?

Originally it sounded like you just had a radiator leak but now it seems like you might have blown the head gasket, and maybe warped or cracked the heads.

I hope you are also using antifreeze. If you can go 6 months between fills a antileak might help. Try Alumaseal or your choice of antileaks available at your local auto parts store.

Yes I think l may have blown a head gasket and or warped or cracked the heads. I'm wondering if this is the case, is my car worth fixing. I have about 170,000 miles in it and probably need to also change the timing belt in it

With that many miles I would try the antileak. Six months is not that bad so you May be able to get quite a few more miles out of it before something fails. Needing to fill every 6 months does not sound like a major problem like a head gasket or crack.

Well my engine would not turn on after it overheated. If I can get it to turn on tomorrow morning, I'll consider putting in the antileak. Thank you for your replies
