Rebuild or swap?

Asked by Rebel Sep 04, 2019 at 03:41 AM about the 2006 Subaru Impreza 2.5i

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I have a 06 Impreza 2.5i, 5 speed. Timing
went a tooth out. Me and a friend tried
getting it back in time. And pretty sure he
seized my motor up.  I need cheapest fix to
get car on road. Should I rebuild it myself
from an online kit? If so what all do I need?
And if I swapped it, for same thing. I'd be
going for a used, junkyard motor for about
350 and can put in my self.  Just don't know
what would be better??? Please help also
car has been sitting only couple months.
And has about 230,000ish miles.

Hmmm. If you just bent valves you can rebuild, but sounds like it's cheaper for you to swap out. Just make sure donor has clean HGs.
