Can I just replace alternator pulley

Asked by GuruPBGG5 Apr 26, 2020 at 07:58 PM about the 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer LT RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My serpentine belt has been chirping nonstop I
replaced the belt and it solved the problem for
about 30 minutes then it started again. My cousin
lookedat it and noticed the pulley isn't spinning
straight and looks bent. The alternator itself is
working great so I really don't want to have to
waste money buying a brand new alternator.

you should get a new(rebuilt) alternator .Find an AC delco OEM supplier near you

You can probably get another pulley from your local salvage yard. But the pulley is not sold by itself, like from the Dealer or an auto parts store. Hope that helps! Jim

Do you think I would be able to trade this one in somewhere for a good deal on a rebuilt? It's perfectly fine other than the pulley being a little lopsided while belt is moving.

There's really no deal involved. When you buy a rebuilt alternator there's a core charge added to the price. When you turn in your old alternator back to the store, in the box the new alternator came in, the core charge is deducted. Hope that helps! Jim

1st place you should have looked is the belt tensioner. If the belt doesn't have the correct amount of tension, even a new alternator/pulley won't help and will continue to "chirp".
