Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have the above stated car.  My son broke the key off in the ignition switch.
After he let everyone work on it who said, I know how to fix it, he finally told
me.  No comment on what I would like to do to him.

Here is my question after being told a hundred different ways to repair it.  The
GMA place wants 500 bucks which  do not want to spend.

With the wiring laying in the floor, I wonder if the iginition switch can have a
part bought for it to replaced the switch back into the column.  The ignition
switch has already been bought by me.  I was told I need another column.  I
understand that the plastic surrounding the column will have to be taken off
starting at the top. I have done my homework.  I even know the size screws
used.

I might be a woman but that sounds like crap to me.   I was a jet engine
mechanic for years but jets are not cars.  I bought this car new and it has less
than 140 thousand miles.  It is my baby and I do not want to have to sell it.
Please give me some advice as from what I have seen, you are the man with
the knowledge. I will take answers only from the site owner. Thank you in
advance.

Honey let me tell you. if you had been without your car for six months and been told everything but the right thing, you might not be nice either . Forget it. I thought I had found a man who knew his business. However, if you only deal with nice folks, please allow me to apologize and get out of here. I didn't know this was a stying shop where all the ladies say yes mama and no mama. or should I say sir? Please have a lovely day sir

OK,If the key is still in the lock cylinder, take a flat screw diver into the cylinder on top of the broken key and see if you can turn the ignition switch,if it can. leave it in the run position and get back to me.

I am not sure where the key is. It may be out there. The ignition switch in not where it should be so I can not do that. All of the wiring going to the switch is laying in the floor. It was torn out. I just want to know if the new ignition switch that I bought can be put into whatever and put back into the same column. A mechanic told me I needed a new column but I do not believe that

No. Wish I could. it is at a shop waiting on me to say go. However, the part that held the ignition switch was silver and appeared to have splayed out. If you get me. The pieces were pulled away from the bottom end.

Did some searching, looks like you can just replace the housing. Part#25831518 & #15861034 Cost, around $200. Hope this helps.
