Usually a flashing check engine light indicates a miss-fire. During the miss-fire, raw fuel is being dumped into the cylinder(s) that is miss- firing. As this fuel goes through the catalytic converters is it burned causing excessive heat in the converter. Fuel is intended to be burned in the engine, not the converters. Driving while the check engine light is flashing can ruin the catalytic converters. You may need a tune up. Get the check engine light read at a local parts store (usually free). Post the code or codes back here.
