Check Engine Light on

I just spent a $1000 to replace the water pump in my 1996 Cavalier Z24 and almost
immediately afterwards, the check engine light came on.  Seems they must have messed
with something else and I'd really love not paying them big bucks again,  Anything I can
check or do short of taking it back to the shop?

go to autozone or most major parts stores and they will read the computer code for free.

On few occasion of check engine, after interior wet engine wash I found connector flooded. Disconnecting it, blowing moisture out stopped showing engine check...
