If you have low oil pressure the engine will turn of on modern cars. The oil pressure may be ok but you may have a bad sending unit. To verify the problem, use a mechanical oil pressure gauge to verify the actual oil pressure, if the pressure is good and the light is still on with the present sending unit....replace the sending unit.
