Buick Rivera dies while driving and won't restart.

Asked by SavageJeannine123 Jun 10, 2016 at 08:32 PM about the 1997 Buick Riviera Supercharged Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1997 Buick Rivera Supercharge.  It runs beautifully while its running, but then it will suddenly shut off while I'm driving and will not restart. The shop I took it to can not figure it out. We have replaced the fuel pumps and that made no difference. This is a random event and can happen anytime without warning.  Everyone is perplexed.  Any ideas would be very welcome.

Check the thermostat and the ect sensor. The ect will cut fuel if it thinks the engine is too hot. Either the thermostat is stuck or the ect is bad, or both.

I experienced similar problems...my fix was changing the crank sensor. This part is located behind the Harmonic Balancer. Good Luck..
