I have a 2007 ford explorer with 86K miles on it. My auto repair shop suggested I get a carbon clean and they quoted labor of $97 and a decarb kit at $117.

Is this something that needs to be done or could I just use fuel additives to get

Do you have any symptoms? For that price I think they are selling you a can of fuel additive.
