06 acura tl navigation is going in and out

I have an '06 too, and it's been doing the same thing for the last 2 years. Recently, it doesn't even come on. I have read that if you take it to the dealership to be fixed, it will cost mega bucks. If you remove the unit (that is in the trunk) and send it to Alpine, they will fix it for less than $400 (was $150, but I saw where the price increased). I am going to attempt this within the next month. Wish me luck!
