out of gas?

Asked by Johncad Jan 25, 2019 at 12:10 AM about the 1999 Chevrolet Malibu LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Let someone use my car (99 malibu LS, 6, she calls sez it will not start, i go
and check, turns over just fine, i call AAA to come tow the thing, but knowing
it may be out of gas, the guy puts 2.5 gals in, the SOB started right up.
IF, and i say IF, the damn thing is out of gas, BUT the system lights , IE: batt,
oil light,  seatbelt light , engine service light  and the gas gauge itself will not ,
is that related to out of GAS???? I don't think so , please you tell me!
thank you,
John

well, when I got to the car, and turned the key, I noticed that none of the warning lights came on, as normal. I thought perhaps some electrical problem, fuse or ing switch, tranny switch, as I said, it turned over fine. Headlights worked, dash lights worked. So AAA puts in the gas, I tried it ,turned over but didn't start, turned key off and tried again, this time all the reg warning lights came on and it fired right up. So it confused me about the Warning lights, I'm asking if there was or is any relationship between the warning lights and being out of fuel. I don't know, however I don't think so. thanks John
