I have a 99 Chevrolet cavalier and it runs just fine,but it want change out in any gears

I've had three cavaliers and they all have had the same problem . on top of the trans where the shift cable hooks to the trans linkage their is a round plastic bushing that slides over a stud and has a nutt on top to hold it on , the plastic bushing could be worn out and the cable will pop off so check that .
