why does rear hydraulic line to accumulator contain a smaller rod insert near accumulator connection

If we are talking A/C, that smaller tube is probably the orfice tube which is a tube with a small spray hole that makes the Freon get cold during the pressure drop. Just make sure it's not plugged with dirt when putting it back. Never wears out or breaks.
