Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When the convertible is not locked the trunk won't open. It stopped in mid stream I had to
manually close it but it won't lock.

Hopefully this will help someone else. With a little bit of trial and error I found out that if you hold down the back seat headrest button it will also lock the convertible top even though the motor does not work.

Whoever butrflyes is above is a lifesaver, top did not lock in the back, trunk would not open, and I was about ready to take a crowbar to the trunk lid! As stated above, I pushed down the headrest button on my Clk and the top locked. Trunk works again, solved the minor convertible issue, and I’m back in business. Thanks a bunch.

Amazing! Totally agree with above comment except I was thinking sledge hammer! Cheers butrflies!

I tried this because my top leaks hydraulic fluid and I didn’t catch it in time before trying to close and so then the top would not do the last step of pulling down the back window and locking completely- I tried everything- and although this did not actually lock it in place it tricked it enough to think it was and then my trunk opened and I was able to re-fill.In the process I took out the back seat and their was pooling of the fluid with more in the passenger side so I think the leaking hydraulic is in one of the trunk mechanisms. Regardless- this worked enough for me and now I’m back in business**Note to self- get the fixed or make sure there is enough fluid on the day you want to use and be prepared for a mess if you ever need to take the seats out! Anyway....thanks a bunch - this trick worked in like 5 min- and I was working on it for hours prior to seeing this thread and decided to give it a try! Thanks again for the info!
