Cavalier shutting off

When I come to a fast stop or try to accelerate my car
putt putt and shuts off, any idea on what it could be.

If it cuts out cold, it could be electrical/computer related, follow Tennisshoes suggestion about the live scanning to know for sure. If it "putt-putts" to a stop it sounds like the engine is lugging, caused by a transmission not downshifting, or TCC (torque converter clutch) not slipping when it should.
