grinding noise and slows itself down

Asked by Guru9232TW Sep 30, 2022 at 12:54 PM about the 2005 Dodge RAM 1500 SLT LB RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Truck makes a grinding noise and slows itself down at random, does not
happen all the time. When i hit the gas it stops. Rear end is wet, brake lines are
wet, cant tell where the fluid is coming from nor what type of fluid it is. Am going
to take it to the car wash and clean the rear end up and see if i can tell where
its coming from. Is it rear end? Is it busted brake lines or Calipers?

Check all your fluids , the low one is the answer . Auto or manual tranny ?

I'm guessing that the grinding sound is coming from the back. As this lets up upon acceleration, I'd suspect it's dry gears that quiet down when pushing again. That wet you see is likely from a loose differential or a broken axle case. The truck is nearly twenty years old, you know.
