Replacing 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 v8 with new engine and transmission. At this time would it be okay to bump up the engine size to the 5.4 without tons of additional modifications? Or just better to replace with brand new exact?

Question type: Car Customization

We don't want to put any unnecessary costs for additional parts/labor by
bumping up to the next size engine. Looking at getting a manufacturer engine.

It would be best to use the exact same engine. Everything else is a minefield of problems. Check reviews and read up on engines before you buy one as all rebuilt engines are not equal.

Changing the engine with a different size motor is bound to cost you extra money. Exhaust system, emissions, lots of other thing come into play. If you don't want unnecessary expense, replace it with and exact fit as F_O_R suggests.
