All our mechanics routinely change inline automatic transmissions in 2-4 hours. Find a shop or mechanic that is hungrier for your business! Or that has integrity!

I am a mechanic, full time.. there is no way your going to remove and replace the trans and transfer case in an 18 year old full size Chevy 4x4. if it was 2 wheel drive I would say sure couple hours no problem. but lets be realistic, 18 years all the fasteners are rusted. its gona take an hour or more just to heat up and remove exhaust manifold bolts for the Y- pipe, 3 on each side then 2 where it connects to tail pipe. then ya gota replace any with damaged, rusted out threads while trans is out. its an 8 to 9 hour job pending on condition of fasteners.

It took me about 10 hours to remove and put back in the transfer case...plus to go get the gasket and gear oil...

In Mexico, a trany mechanic took out and repaired my trany in two days time. He quoted $500; however, I paid him $700 knowing I'd pay more in the USA and knowing he dropped his other work to get it done for my convenience. Now, I have a similar need for 06 GMC Envoy Denali with 5.3 V-8, but I'm in Az. and hope to find someone to do it for me. I do not know yet, but I'd expect 700-1000 to get it done off the books?
