No heat in 98' Dodge ram

Asked by Guru9CJFD Jan 04, 2018 at 06:22 PM about the 1998 Dodge RAM 1500 Laramie SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently inherited a 98' Dodge ram 1500. The AC
is great. But I have no heat. It blows just fine but
never gets warm, with one exception. If I'm
climbing a large hill, with the heat off, I'll get blast
of hot air through the vents for a couple of
seconds. I'm not sure how to pinpoint a vacuum
leak and I'm not overheating like you would expect
with a thermostat issue. Just not sure where to
start.

many times the 1 way valve on the passenger side of the intake where the HVAC lines come out go bad. The line comes out about half way back and down low on the side of the intake. check to see if you get hot air thru the defroster...also could be the line from the intake that runs thru the firewall to the vacuum control of the heater/mixer door or vent- defrost door is busted. The easiest place to start is at the 1 way valve, this will typically cause the air to default to the defroster when the engine is under load.
