Putting the tail shaft back on the transmission?

Asked by WeeWilly69s4U Mar 19, 2017 at 07:06 AM about the 1997 Dodge RAM 1500 LT LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I can't get it back to bolt it to the
transmission. Lack's 1inch. I think the
internal shifting rod is the problem. It should
just slide to the transmission and bolt to the
transmission right??

You are correct. But, the rod you are talking about is the rod to engage/disengage the parking pawl. Look inside the tail shaft the rod needs to slide into the ramp for the pawl. the last inch can be difficult. you may need to use a rubber mallet at the end of the case to get it to mate up. Just keep at it. you'll get it.
