hate to suggest this because the other gurus will get prickly, but the black 1/0 battery cable attachment to the ground or chassis has a lug end and bolt and washer connecting it to the chassis ground...pull out a course wirebush and polish this lug clean of corrosion rust and debris...same with the attachement point...make it free of everything...paint, rust corrosion till we have a metal to metal connection to the lug....same for the connection to the motor block to the frame has to pull at least 300 CCA without smokin'--- assuming you got a GOOD battery, prestolite, intrestate even NAPA new, because the batteries first charge is chimped off little tabs what tell the date of it's begin of life cycle...you can't run with a half-dead battery, is like asking grandpa to race across the busy intersection on crutches...bad for your alternator and causes the starter to not turn to the speed it was designed for---so New battery Clampers should be hosed free of corrosion and given a renewed connection to the battery...the other end what connects to the starter solenoid should also be chased with a somewhat smaller brass brush---put the new battery in, cleaned ground and hot connections and call it skippy~
