97 dodge 1500 transmission

Can you convert a 2wd trans to use in a 4wd ?

on some trucks a few years back you could by hanging a transfer case on the tail after removing the existing tail , later pcm controlled vehicles have a wiring harness that may not match the swap to electorally engage the transfer unit and hubs
