97 dodge laramie fuel pump question

Ok guys im just going to come out with it my trucks
fuel pump is out took it out hooked to neg pos
battery it worked but wasnt working in the tank so
what im wondering is there anyway that i can just
install a electrical external pump its a. 5.9 so if i
could what brand or fuel psi should i get any help
would greatly be appreciated god bless

You can but why not just fix the problem with the original. Place a voltmeter at the end where pump connects and trace voltage back to fuel relay. Turn key on and see if you can hear the relay kick in
