Changed starter

Asked by ImpalaQuestions Sep 29, 2019 at 12:37 PM about the 2001 Chevrolet Impala LS FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car was running good. One day coming out of the gas
station just decided to start dying. So i checked battery.
Needed a new one. Still no start so i checked the starter.
Starter failed so I got a new one. So it has the small purple,
a black with a red piece on the end, & and orange & black
that was already connected together. The purple to the S
terminal and the rest to the other one. I hooked it back up
the same way, tried to start it 2 times. And I basically fried
everything I'm not sure how far.

Can't tell. I only tried starting it the two times. And after that it killed the battery. Along with I haven't found out what yet. I got the battery charged, there is power going to the fuse boxes under the hood but that's it. Nothing past that.

No power to the alternator either ? I would remove the alternator and have it tested. You have a serious draw short and i am leaning to the alternator at this point. There are inline fuses to the ignition and fuse box in the car as well. The draw is so severe it sounds like a large positive wire is ground shorted. Check the positive cable isolation to the starter and alternator and any other point that coincides.
