Oil pressure on 2000 s10

Asked by Robert Mar 30, 2020 at 07:58 AM about the 2000 Chevrolet S-10 LS 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

From a cold start oil pressure is at 20,
goes up to 40 at higher rpms, after 10-
15 miles it drops to nothing. I have
replaced the oil pump, pressure
sensor, flushed the engine, had the
screen on the pickup tube cleaned,
gone from 5w30 to 10w30 ... I’m out
of options
What do I do from here?

Hook up a mechanical oil pressure gauge and see if the gauge on the dash is accurate. If it is I'd suspect worn bearings. Especially if it's a high mileage vehicle. My 03 S10 Pick Up with the 4 cylinder shows about 75 PSI when cold at idle, about 30 PSI at idle when fully warmed up, and about 40 PSI when driving fully warmed up. That's with 5W30 conventional oil and 296,000 miles on the engine! Hope that helps! Jim
