Radio issues

Asked by Gerard Nov 24, 2018 at 07:02 AM about the 2005 Ford F-150 Lariat SuperCab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Radio will only power up after I disconnect the battery and reconnect whit the
key in the on position and when I start the truck I lose the radio. This all started
after I changed the alternator and battery.

I would not recommend disconnecting the batt in the run position , that alone can cause problems , the radio power is run by the ecm through an interface , a memory saver should have been used when you disconnected the batt. to replace the alt and batt.. Or if you didn;t disconnect it there may have been power surges that caused problems , check mega fuses , you may need a technician

Did you disconnect the battery when the alternator was being replaced? My guess is, no. Also where did you buy the alternator?

I did not say disconnect in the run position I said reconnect in the run position cause if I don't do that the alarm goes off and I can't turn it off.

Measure the voltage at the battery engine running it should be 13.4 to 14.7 volts. If it is under 13 volts the alternator or it's wiring is the problem.

I was just out there trying new things, just went through all the fuses once more and they are all good, did a voltage test and it is at 14 while running, checked the splice in the purple wire under the driver rear door and that is in good condition. I'm baffled...
