The upper link kit is for added performance and handling. This could have something to do with the wheel/tire configuration on your vehicle. If you have aftermarket wheels and tires that stick out from the vehicle they are putting undo stress on all of the steering and suspension linkage. However, this seems rather out of place for this type of failure to occur after only 2 years of use. I would have a trusted mechanic take a look at the work performed and discuss what might have (or not) taken place.
