Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Driving down interstate and started hearing
a wierd noise under hood. Before I could get
pulled over my car shut off. When I popped
the hood I could see where water had
sprayed all over the passenger side of the
motor.  4 months ago I replaced radiator,
thermostat, water pump, radiator cap, and
all hoses. Could my tension pulley wearing
out cause my water pump to burn up?

The serpentine belt tensioner wearing out could cause the belt to come off and whip around and take out a radiator hose, if the belt indeed came off it would cause you to lose accessories like power steering and the alternator. The water pump would also stop, but it wouldn't be damaged in the process, and it sounds from your description like the engine died before it could overheat.

It did shut off about instantly affter i heard a noise. But the belt is still on. Isnt freyed or anything. When it was took off the tow truck there was coolant on the bed of thw truck like right below where the water pump is.

You'll have to go through the entire cooling system to get a proper diagnosis, remove the serpentine belt and turn the water pump by hand, see if it seized up. Check the shaft for looseness or play. If you do see coolant leaking from it, you'll have to pull it. If it seized, it would have dragged on the serpentine belt and that possibly stopped the motor.

Mine did the same thing this past week. It did not run hot... You can smell coolant, no leaking, coolant in tail pipe. What could be the problem?
