1997 ford f150 turns but wont start

Asked by Jeanninelorraine Oct 17, 2017 at 06:29 PM about the 1997 Ford F-150 XLT Extended Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

OK I hit a bump pretty hard  and the engine  just died and I haven't been able to start it since.  I've
checked the fuses the relay the safety shut off switch.  And there is no pressure in the fuel rail.
But I don't know that their should be when it not running. Any idea anyone?thank u in advance

When fuel pump primes up prior to cranking and starting there is fuel pressure to rail. Maybe a/some wires came loose or ground was broken when hitting the bump back on the frame rail to pump or at/near fuel pump, I would check for power to it and relay for it and any other grounds you can find, if rusty frame is an issue may remove and sand/grind down to good solid metal and re-attach ground wire. Or fuel pump/computer slap went out.

spray a little carb cleaner into the intake and see if it fires. if so, your fuel pump may not be working. BTW, you said yu checked the safety shut off switch, or known as the inertia switch, are you sure about that. hitting a bump can pop the switch it is a classic ford problem. you can also temporarily bypass the inertia switch and see if you get power to the pump. and as always check all fuses and relays associated with the fuel system.
