how do you work for a person who has bad credit and can't afford a down payment?

Depending on how bad your credit actually is, you'll probably have to go to a "Buy Here-Pay Here" car dealer and buy a used vehicle for around $1500-$2500 and make weekly payments. Some of those places report to the credit bureaus and as long as you make your payments on time, your credit will get better and then you can try a better dealer that goes thru a finance company but with bad credit, don't expect to get a brand new car with no money down. It ain't gonna happen. Good luck . Kenny/MrBlueOval
