When I turn the steering wheel any direction it makes a sound. It sounds like something in the column needs to be "oiled". What can this be?

Could be the power steering pump is packing it in, and squealing under load. If it's inside the vehicle, it might be that plastic is rubbing when the steering wheel is turned. Have a mechanic check it out.

check the fluid level for your power steering. Look for a silver canister on the engine near the front, it'll have a black knob on the top to take the top off. Noisy steering is usually due to the power steering pump trying to pump fluid that simply isn't there resulting in a kind of slurping/ scraping sound.

I have the same problem. My C280 1995 has 225K miles in it. Sometimes the sound disappear when the engine gets warmer. But it never happen before. Anything ? By the way the Benz mech is charging me $135 just to diagnosed it.
