Fuel

650

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Turn key to on position 4 times and no fuel
pressure. 4th time I listened to see if I could hear
pump and I could hear it. But it sounded a little off
possibly. Then tried to start it and it took 3 times
before it would start and run. When running it ran
pretty rough at first. Even after running for a minute
it seemed a little rough. While running fuel
pressure was 50psi. This is a flex fuel 5.3 liter
engine. Shut engine off. Tuned key to on position
again 3 times. This time it went up to 50psi. Could
the check valve in the fuel pump be bad and
bleeding back? And fuel pump needs replaced? Or
is there something else I should check?

And...I looked at it again last night. I found a part near the ABS unit that 2 different sized fuel lines go to. Small line in from the tank and big line out to the engine. What is this part? Inertia switch off or cut off? And could this be my problem?

650

After doing some online investing I found out that that part is not the inertia switch. It is the FCS (fuel composition sensor) and I'm assuming since there is no code it should not be the problem. Is that a correct assumption?

I guess I'm doing this wrong or there is nobody answering questions anymore. Last question...could it be the fuel regulator?

650

Well...it's not the fuel regulator. I replace the fuel regulator. It started right up and seemed to run good. I switched around some relays and cleaned terminals too. The fuel pump sounded better. I drove it around some and everything seemed ok. Let it sit a couple days. Now it's not starting at all. I will start all over and check fuel pressure first. But it would be nice if I could get some input on this. It's been 5 days and no response. I must be using this wrong?

Well...I guess I will keep posting till I get some answers or figure it out on my own. Maybe this will help someone else eventually. I have now replaced the fuel regulator and I just did the fuel filter. Still no fuel pressure! The pump cycles on and off. Now I'm going to disconnect the fuel line just before the fuel filter and see if I'm getting fuel pressure there. I will let you know the out come.
