Melted rear hose under back of Chevy Cav

Our muffler fell and was hanging for a bit while driving. We placed the muffler
back, but we saw this hose that is now melted some due to the muffler
hanging. It goes horizontal from near back tire to near back tire. Can you tell
me what it is, I'm trying to figure out its importance. Thanks
