Question type: Maintenance & Repair

On my way home yesterday, my 2005 Chevy Trailblazer LT, suddenly lost power, and a
warning light came on!!! the light looks like an engine with a large, downward pointing
arrow in it. What does this light indicate?

Reduced engine power light. The light is displayed when a noticeable reduction in your vehicles performance may occur. The vehicle may be driven at a reduced speed when reduced engine power light is on but acceleration and speed may be reduced. The performance may be reduced until the next time you drive your vehicle. If the light stays on see your dealer as soon as possible for diagnosis and repair. This light may also come on if there is a problem with the electronic throttle control (ETC) system. If this happens take your vehicle in for service as soon as possible. This info was found on page 3-48 of your owners manual. Hope it helps.

Thank you! Yes,I was able to drive it home(fortunately, not far) but it would not go much more than 30mph, acceleration was extremely slow and sluggish just to go that fast! So ETC makes sense. I can not locate my owner's manual, now that I need it(of course). Thanks again!

What ended up happening to your truck? Were there any parts you have to replace?

My engine light came on and the code pulled for the coolant or thermostat, my dad checked my coolant and it was not low he even topped it off but the light is still on

This happened to my 2012 Chevy Cruze. Not sure if it was that simple for them but my car was out of gas. After waiting for a tow I realized my gas gauge was not working and due to no gas you get no power. Hence the low power light.

Check the 5 silver screws in the fuse box under the hood. Make sure they are tight.

Just had this problem with 2005 Chevy trailblazer 4.2 L, 6-cylinder engine. There was a check engine light with a arrow inside of it pointing down. The pedal worked normally (wasn’t stiff or hard to press down) but yet the car wouldn’t go above 25mph. Hooked up a scanner and the vehicle had 6 codes so there’s other problems with the vehicle but there was one that was repeated - “Control Module Throttle Actuator Position Performance (P2101)” and another similar “Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) Module Throttle Actuator Position Performance (P1516)” so I figured it’d be best to start with the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC). The part is roughly around $300 brand new at Autozone and you can probably find it cheaper online. It takes about ten minutes to replace, you just have to remove the resonator box on top of the engine and four bolts that hold the throttle body in place. My car ran perfect after that. Hope this helps. Haven’t checked if the codes went away but will post update.
