Oil gauge

Asked by Billy Feb 14, 2016 at 10:14 PM about the 2002 Toyota Sequoia SR5

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My oil gauge keeps fluctuates as i am driving. It
will start low and then go up and then no reading,
as I'm driving. When I come to a stop the oil gauge
goes up then when I start to move it will stay at the
same reading until I get to 50 mph, then it will fall
to nothing. There is no engine noise or
overheating.

Also wouldn't hurt to ensure the oil level is full - I know its simple but a lot of people have overlooked that

Hello, I own a 2005 Sequoia with 240,000 miles. I purchased used with 50K in 2007. Since the purchase the oil pressure gauge was very erratic. At times the gauge would read zero at highway speeds. At other times it would fluctuate up and down. I finally got tired of this condition and replaced the oil pressure sending unit. Purchased from the local Oreillys auto parts store. My oil pressure gauge is now reading correctly and the fluctuation is gone. When the engine is cold it reads a little higher, when the engine slowly warms I have just a little less indicated on gauge. If you are reading this and have the same symptoms I would recommend replacement of the oil pressure sending unit.
