Is there anyway to temporarily increase oil pressure in my 2003 RAV 4 . My check oil light flickers, comes on for a while, goes of ,comes on etc. I have already replaced the sending switch.

if the oil pressure light is flickering, it's because the engine is approaching dangerously low levels of oil in the crank case. When was your last oil change? Have you checked the oil yourself?

fresh oil change with a quart of lucas oil additive. Also already tried RISOLINE and MARVEL MYSTERY OIL to no avail!

First thing that I do,install mechanical oil pump gauge,if at full operating temp oil pressure goes down, say the longer it runs the lower it gets at 2,000 RPM,then pull the pan and clean oil pickup, they get clogged sometimes, this is very common these days on lots of cars,Fords, volkswagons, and Toyotas believe it or not.

I think you're right....its worth a try before doing a valve job or replacing the cylinder head!

Thanks for the reply,as a rule oil pressure will not go down under rpm,but will remain stable the higher the rpm on a 200 degree engine,if its clogged the longer you run it the lower it gets, say going towards 20 psi, then you pull it and see whats in the pickup,if everything is clean, then you have problems, not very common.

Ten year old car with a worn engine - thicker oil to keep the pressure up and consumption down.
