'05toyota corolla rough shifting

my problem is rough shifting.......what is it?

Is your car manual or auto? If manual if you let out the clutch in neutral is there a rattling noise? It could be a clutch plate issue. Have had this in the past one of the sprickets and springs broke. Might not be an actual gearbox issue. If auto then am at a loss :)
