clicking sound, 1998 camry won't start

I would check battery voltage, should be 12.4+ Volts. If battery is good and still won't turn over, check all battery cables for corrosion and make sure they have good connection to battery. Check for corrosion in this vermin area, this could weaken your cable to battery connection. If all cables are ok, check for voltage at the starter solenoid small terminal. If voltage is present and still no crank, you may be looking at a bad starter

Did you try a proper "Jump Start"?. That noise you are hearing from the left front dash might be the Start Relay not receiving enough current to function properly. Brand New Batteries are not always fully charged Batteries.

thks Tony, some additional info, the noise stops when I depress the brake pedal and I recently had a problem with the braking system, one of the brake lines burst, would this change anything?

Brake repair..."won't start"....I don't see the connection. I agree with salgus...back to basics. Time to check battery and the rest of the Starter System. Need that Voltmeter.
