Coolant Reservoir

Asked by GuruXK9BN Nov 06, 2018 at 01:56 AM about the 1996 Toyota Camry LE V6

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My coolant reservoir has two dry rotted holes at
the top and is boiling and spewing all coolant out.
Not leaking from anywhere under the hood, used
Bars head gasket sealant....res still boils. Car
doesn't overheat at all, res just boils and spews out
all coolant from the radiator and res. Replace the
reservoir and radiator cap, maybe? Thank you,
fellas.

Or should I check the thermostat? No rough idle, no smoke from the tailpipe. Actually, recent semi rebuilt motor. Thanks!

Does this Toyota have water or the proper antifreeze mixture in it? Bars Leak may cause more problems than it helps. The boiling may be bubbles from combustion which would be caused by a bad head gasket or cracked cylinder head. You can buy a kit that tests for combustion gasses in the coolant. You could also have the cooling system pressure tested and run a compression test on the engine to determine the cause.

It has the Toyota 50-50 prediluted coolant. But, I sealed the holes in the reservoir and now has no leaks but it still teams and boils all the coolant out of the rubber escape hose. No smoke, good power, no sounds in the engine or leaks. Still trying to get the compression test done. Weather has been bad here on my off days. Could the thermostat be stuck?

Plus, I found out, the previous owner had just had the head gaskets rebuilt. They may have done a bad job.
