Key not turning back

Car will go in park and every other position but key
will not turn all the way to off it acts like it can tell
what gear I'm in weather it's reverse or neutral but
throw it in park and key won't turn all the way back
and I don't have to hold down the button on the
gear shifter it just moves from drive to revers or
park without me having to hold down the button

It may be that the linkage just needs adjusting. There are sensors that are not fully engaged one way or the other.

    Knocked a hole in the oil pan. It ran out of oil and automatically shut off. Replaced the oil pan and oil now it will not crank. Can hear the fuel pump. It's turning over.
