What’s wrong with my 06’ Chevy Cobalt?

Asked by Keela Oct 04, 2020 at 05:17 PM about the 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Supercharged Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I purchased a 06’ Chevy Cobalt September 11,
2020 it stalls and shuts off in the middle of traffic,
Whenever I play my radio and use my heat at the
same time while, driving long distance for an hour
or even normal driving to multiple places the car
would shake really really  really badly.  The car also
doesn’t drive pass 40mph without idle very baldly
just from driving the Car multiple normal times. I’ve
taken the car to a “work from home Mechanic.” He
changed the spark plugs to brand new (ACDelco)
spark plugs. After that didn’t stop the car from its
symptoms. I then took the car to precision tuned
and they performed diagnostic test  to reveal my
this: ( lDTCS, U2100, B2555, P0300, P0300, P0171,
P0101, and P0507). I’ve take the 06’ Chevy Cobalt
to GMC. I told GMC all of this.  The CHECK
ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON I FORGOT TO SAY THAT
AT THE BEGINNING. Nevertheless GMC performed
CEL Was on my car. F.Y.I  I only had the car for 2
week. For the CEL they said it was the mass airflow
sensor is the cause so they replaced the  Mass air
flow sensor for the CEL problem.  I mentioned that
my 06 Chevy cobalt stalls and, jerks and also  stalls
whiling driving the car pass 30mph the car will also
jerk if I have the radio and heat on at the same time.
They also said the battery cables were badly
corroded at the battery and they stuck to the
battery.  They also  charged me an arm and a leg
and the car is still doing the same things. My
biggest question is What’s wrong with my 06’
Chevy Cobalt? And what to do; to fix the problem
for good? I just want to be able to drive my car  2
hours and 45 mins if I have to and know my car is
only going to need gas, I can use my radio and a/c
of heat and the only thing I have to worry about is
gas.

I believe your problems are electrical related and they can be somewhat of a pain to diagnose but not impossible. first off don't worry about the codes at this point, once the electrical issue is corrected the other issues will correct themselves. First off has there been any aftermarket wiring done by the past owner like a new stereo system installed? That is where you start...look around for any wiring done that is not factory, look under the hood, trunk area, under the dash and under the car. Also we need to find all the major grounds and clean them. Let me now what you find and if you have questions just ask
