'98 Subaru Outback Impreza Sport - Alarm system reset - 4 way lights on steadily

Asked by Lil_Red_Wagon Aug 31, 2019 at 07:18 PM about the 1998 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Lil' Red Wagon's alarm system reset itself recently. The 4 way lights remain
on when car is off.

What I've tried:
*cycling alarm system - driver's door open, flipped on & off 4 times
*driving car - reset alarm button, held 10 seconds - door locks cycle
*disconnected negative battery terminal - waited hours, turned key to On,
reconnected terminal - immobilizer wouldn't allow to start - held alarm reset
button. Started, turned off, 4 way lights still on steady.

I know there's a few other sequences I've tried over the years that have
resolved all alarm issues. This is the first time the system won't fully reset and
the battery drained. The doors have also auto-locked after the car was sitting
for 15 mins (key in car, fortunately window down enough!).

Is there anything I can do without having to disconnect the factory installed
alarm system?

Thanks in Advance!

First things first: are you sure the headlight switch isn't set to the first position? Failing that obvious possibility I'd chase help at a local alarm-audio aftermarket shop. If unavailable, at least cut the power to the alarm box and maybe live without the alarm, as the theft rate for an oild Imp is ridiculously low anyway.
