I have a question about my 2005 pontiac grand prix gt.

Asked by Jerry Apr 30, 2015 at 01:58 PM about the 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix GT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Basically, half of the time I start my car it starts up very weak and immediatly starts
sputtering and then dies. The other half of the time it starts up very strong. Replaced
the battery 3 months ago, and have alternator tested along with the battery just to
make sure today and both are good. Also, when it starts sputtering, if I give it gas then
it will turn over just fine.... its only when i turn the key over and thats it is when the
above happens... any help is much appreciated.

Clean throttle body, when was last time fuel filter was replaced? Check air filter. Is check engine light on?

Remove your Mass Air Flow sensor and clean it with a can of CRC MAF cleaner. Do what CamaroCollector said as well. Also remove your Idle Air Control valve and clean that. A bad Engine Coolant Temp sensor will also give you a hard start if it's going bad.
