Had serpentine belt , timing belt & water pump all replaced 20,000 miles ago
ahead of the scheduled time as when purchased they recommend us to at
40,000 miles ,it had been sitting for a few years, it broke down going around
a corner slow about 10 miles a hour,Had it towed to repair shop who had
done all the work on it,They said the timing belt was shredded completely,are
checking it out today to one find out why it shredded,two to see if engine is
damage is damaged,it's a 95 MItsubishi eclipse spyder 4 cylinder convertible
bought new .with 600 miles on it,as it had been stolen off car lot had been in
minor accident where as bumper had to be replaced who ever stole it put the
600 miles on it,car sat on lot for 3 years before we bought it,is it an non
interference engine ? They say engine may be shot

This is a interference engine,meaning it more than likely is damaged the heads,if you had the timming belt changed 20000 mile.s ago it should have been good,but when it was replaced at that time did they change all the idler pully,s on the timming allso?This would explain a belt being shreeded at 200000 miles.

We had everything replaced at that time at 40,000 miles,20,000 miles ago

Buz bec,had to be something in there that tore the belt up,think you may find that the water pump locked up or one of the timmimg idlers locked up.

Repair shop called today ,Thankfully engine not tore up,They said that idler pulleys under timing belt froze up ,Him only going 15/20 miles an hour at the time it broke down is what saved the engine .Thanks for all the input very helpful
