Question type: General

I have a 2000 mercury grand marquis gs.
The problem that i am having is that my car
will not turn over using my ignition. 1st as
the turn the key it makes NO NOISE AT ALL
but my dash is the only thing that lights up.
The way im going in order to crank the car
up i have a wire going to the starter from the
inside of my car connected to a button that i
push for the car to turn over. My question is
what exactly can the problem be? Is the
starter going bad? Can it be the ignition
switch itself? I've check my alternator by
talking the power cord of the battrey but it
never cut off

It sounds like the ignition switch but try this first but vehicle in neutral and try to start if vehicle starts nuteral safety switch needs to be adjusted or replaced.

Also try a spare key if you have one. The passive anti theft system may also keep it from starting.

There's a plastic piece that breaks in the steering column. There's an 80 minute video on how to replace it. I decided not to tear apart my steering column.

https://youtu.be/I1KYds4uTiQ This video shows the part that your key actuates when the plastic piece isn't broken. I just unbolted this part and push the pin by hand. No one wants to steal my Grand Marquis anyway.

I have a 2000 grand Marque that will not turn over from the Park setting, but WILL from the Neutral setting; Could turn over from the park setting by jumping the solenoid to starter; however it will not start from EITHER position. all dash lights are on but shut off when trying to start from park position but no click. battery and battery cables/connections are good. Drove it to where it is parked. Any suggestions?

Have same issue as GuruDY18T. Put in two new Neutral Safety Switches so thats not it. Have two original keys. Keys shut the security light off, so it recognizes the key. So the issues are: 1.) Will not turn over in Park. 2.) Turns over in Neutral but will not start. 3.) Fuel pump good but not pumping as there is no power to pump or to the pump fuse....
