wondering if i should purchase a performance chip for my audi.
has anyone ever had any problems after installing and using a performance chip?

the only time problems occur is for the ones that plug directly to the circuit board. Most people do not realize they have to remove the plastic covering the contacts and those who do often do a miserable job at it causing the chip to malfunction/cause check engine light. a plug and play tuner is the best option.

ya!? and how do those work, and roughly how much do they cost? remember i have the 2.8 v6

the chip on a 2.8 isn't really worth the money. You're only going to gain a few hp and not notice any difference. The only mod really for a 2.8 is going to be the PES superchargers and then you're drastically lowering your engine life. Wouldn't waste the money but to clear things up a bit; If you get the chip installed by a professional there is absolutely a 0% chance of fuck up. But again, I wouldn't waste the money. It's a 2.8, buy some suspension and wheels and make it look nice. It's never going to be fast.

i dont understand why a few mods couldnt help wake it up some? its faster than the 1.8 that the car also came with. a good tune should be able to give it a better throttle response and a few hp. youre right that its not going to be super fast or anything but getting better throttle response and extra hp would make a good improvement.
