My 2003 Audi A4 Quattro won't start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced the battery, spark plugs & coils but the car still won't start. My friend scanned the car for codes and claims I need to replace relay 30. I didn't find relay 30 but I did find relay 219 which is a cooling fan relay. Could that be why the car wouldn't start or am I looking at the wrong relay?

The cooling fan relay has no effect on starting the vehicle. When you say coils, did you replace the ignition coil pack? If not I would start there, if that was replaced pull the ignition switch. You can get one on the cheap at a salvage yard or online. Best of luck!

I had a feeling that relay had nothing to do with it. Yes the ignition coil packs. Now there saying the main power relay. Which relay is that? Or could it be the fuel pump relay? It cranks it gets power it wants to start but won't. Just curious but why would it be the ignition switch?

I was assuming from your question that the car wouldn't crank (you didn't mention that it did). So the ignition switch is good. Heres a DIY fix for the Power Relay on youtube. Again you can get the parts at a salvage yard or online for pretty cheap. Hope this helps! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSq5Y_eFMCY

I have a 2002 Audi A4, Quattro, 3.0 - and my car has barely been running. We started off by checking codes and changed the crankcase position sensor. My nephew found all my vacuum lines broken, brother found all secondary air system plastic beasts were rotted and crumbled to pieces. They changed all that and it cranks when its COLD only. It runs great then while sitting idling it dies. We then decide to change the coil packs, spark plugs they were nasty and covered in oil. Again, it cranks COLD only then after about 15 miles of driving while parking. Then won't crank. It sounds like it wants too but can't. But if you let it sit and get COLD it will. P.S. MAF was replaced. Please help.
