electrical Problem

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2003 GMC Sierra 1500. No start, no crank. When I turn the key to start the truck electrical problems begin All lights go out, only the right turn signal works and the engine doesn't turn over. Starter solenoid does not click. The only click is from the relay in the fuse box in the engine compartment.  There is, however, a low volume, high pitch noise under the hood. I can't tell where in the engine compartment the noise is originating. When I disconnect and reconnect the battery the noise goes away, until I try to crank again.
Anyone heard of this? I found a web site that pointed to the throttle position sensor so, I replaced it. That did not correct the problem.

Check your battery with a multimeter. Set your multimeter to 20 DC, place your negative probe on the negative post and positive probe on the positive post. My battery reads a 11.9 vdc. It is just under 12 volts. So I know my battery is good. If your battery is around 8.0 or less, you could be drawing out your voltage somewhere or your alternator may not be charging the bat. If your battery is over 7 years old, you may want to think about getting a new one. Inspect your cables for corrosion too. I can't stand that green powdery corrosive dust around a positive cable.
