Popping sound after i release the clutch?

Asked by harshgdog Feb 19, 2010 at 04:05 AM about the 1991 Ford Ranger Custom Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just recently I have noticed that after I release the clutch pedal, there is a loud popping sound. I seem to believe it is coming from the clutch master cylinder? Anyone have any comments on this?

i have run into that problem.are you having a hard time getting the car to start? i let it go and it was a bad idea. look at your firewall where the clutch master cylinder is. there is a plate that is like wielded on. have someone sit in the car and push up and down on the pedal while you look at it from the outside. if you see the whole clutch master cylinder move when they push on the pedal what most likely happened is that that plate is separating from the firewall. i had to get a plate of steel made and up it on the inside of the car to pull the master cylinder back in to where its supposed to be.
